Black Bean Burger

Dan and I avoid eating read meat for the most part. Up to now, we’ve been ordering veggie burgers in restaurants and buying frozen offerings in the grocery store, but I found a recipe on a site called ChinDeep that wasn’t as complicated as most I’ve seen. It contains only 4 ingredients (if you can count the seasonings as only 1 ingredient). While the main 3 ingredients remain the same, my flavoring elements are different. It is delicious and firm enough, so it doesn’t fall apart on the bun. This will be my “go to from now on.

1 can of black beans (well-drained and rinsed)

1 6-oz can tomato paste

1 cup old fashioned rolled oats

1 tsp liquid smoke

1 Tblsp Worcestershire sauce

2 tsp Louisiana hot sauce

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp celery salt

1/4 tsp garlic powder.

First, put the 1 cup of rolled oats in a food processor and mix until it becomes a coarse flour. Pour into a bowl. Then put well-drained and rinsed black beans and the tomato paste to the food processor and mix until relatively smooth. Add bean and tomato mixture to the oat flour. Mix well. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well again. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Oil your fingers and make 3-4 patties (depending on how big you want them. The mixture will be wet. Place on baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Then flip over and bake for another 10-15 minutes. Burgers should be firm and crispy on the edges.
